I just finished making this Hula Skirt for Ykaie's upcoming Luau birthday party! She's gonna be 4 yrs old on the 19th of November and we'll celebrate her birthday at the beach in Puerto Galera. It will just be a small party.
I did the same procedure when I made Ykaie's tutu 2 years ago. It is the quickest way to make a Hawaiian grass skirt. I only spent Php130 for the materials.

I cut several lengths of raffia straw ( knee length)

I just kept tying and adding pieces of raffia straw onto the elastic band using Cow hitch knot.

measure around waist and sew the 2 ends together.

Finished product- embellished with flowers using hot glue

I also made mini grass skirts and bra tops

Drink Hula skirts

Here's Ykaie's Beach Luau birthday party.

napaka creative mo naman:)keep it up. Your giving me alot of ideas:)
Cut strips of newspaper or paper grocery bags and use them in place of raffia for an even more inexpensive skirt, or for a spontaneous play skirt for a little girl. They're easy to make, even if you don't have any sewing skills, and they look great when you're ready to get out and shake your grass.
May I ask where you got the raffia straw fabric from?
